Everything is on course...

My apology for not writing in a while.

Everyone is doing fine. We did change to a family practice physician and could not be happier with the new doc. Our littlest guy will be going back in another couple of weeks to be re-evaluated for enlarged tonsils and possibly a referral to an EENT. Wow! A practitioner who knows how to listen and take care of a patient.

For the most part school has heated up considerably and is the reason why I haven't written in a while. I managed to finally complete my clinical hours in the ICU and am just now re-introducing myself to family and friends (chuckle).

The ICU was by far the most interesting clinical rotation I've had thus far. I managed to not have any actively dying patient assignments during my entire time in this program. That is until my last day when I had two. Neither passed during my shift but it was interesting to be working with the family and I learned a lot about myself when dealing with one particular patient.

The patient that was the most challenging was younger than me and with children around the same age as mine. The diagnosis was grim with metastasized colon cancer resulting in an inoperable brain tumor. I choked up every time I entered the room to see the youngest child sitting and coloring at bedside.

I definitely hugged my wife and kids a little tighter that night.

On the brighter side....
Just passed the most comprehensive standardized test to date (school's assessment tool) and had to pass in order to graduate. Most of us were given two chances to pass but I didn't want to leave anything to risk so I studied my gluteus maximus off, took sample tests, and entered the bargaining phase (oh lord... I will dedicate my life if only I can pass this test!).

Happy to say that I passed the first time and it was 14 points above national average! Woo!!!

The next hurdle is an upcoming Advanced Topics comprehensive final (ugghhhh) and then its on to May 4th pinning and graduation on May 5th.

Oh... then there is my 20th high school reunion coming up next year.
