That is what should be written on my side view mirrors.
I spent the day hanging out with a fellow student nurse. She surprised me when she revealed that she had just submitted her application for grad school. Her plan to go straight into grad school REALLY peaks my interest.
Her plan is to work for the affiliated hospital and go part time to school. The hospital will pay for 12 hours per semester regardless if she goes FT or PT. She will end up having to pay for only one semester of tuition.
Me thinks I have a new plan!
The Deal About Nothing

I can hear the wheels in your brain spinning now
ReplyDeletehmm...Good idea. Are you wanting to pursue an NP? I am. A local univeristy and the bigger of the two facilities in town offer the same plan as your friend's. I am very interested, but dont want to short myself experience that will help me through grad school...what to do, what to do.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try for PNP (very popular) so I don't know if I'll get it.
ReplyDeleteI've been going back and forth for a while about what I was going to do. But the reality is that I'm not getting any younger and it will be much more difficult (for the family) if I stay out a few years before going back. I'll end up missing out on the boy's after school and extracurricular activities.
If I'm going to do it... now is the time while I'm still in school mode (and so is the family).
Can you do this? Here the requirement is work experience (2 years I think) before you can do the grad school thing in NP or NA. If you can move straight to grad school, then DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!! I'm just too old. I don't want to retire with student loans. That's just too depressing.
ReplyDeleteyeah--we have an RN-MSN program that many of the hospitals will pay for...
ReplyDeletebut grad-level statistics scares the poopoo out of me!
The MSN program requires you have a GPA no lower than 3.2. You are required to work for the affiliate hospital for 2 years as an RN while going through the program (part time... which takes two years).
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense financially too. My debt load will be MOSTLY (by a large proportion) from my BSN. For only a little bit more I'll get my MSN and double my earning potential. I'll be able to pay off my loans faster this way. (another benefit)
I continue to work full time as I go to Grad school. As you can read from my blog, it's sometimes really hard to "do it all". My advice is to keep going if you can!! Consider FNP if you can't do PNP.. It covers just about everything.
