Today was the first time in months that the wife and I have had time off at the same time... AND DAYCARE! Actually we've known since last Thursday when my wife's boss told her to go ahead and take Monday off.
So, since Thursday I've known how I wanted to spend our time together once our getting-reacquainted-time was addressed. I wanted to see the new Superman movie, Superman Returns. But I was afraid to mention it to her in fear that she would immediately shoot it down.
You see my wife knows she married a big nerd. Computers, gaming, comic books... I've done it all. The computer career is over (obviously), the gaming hobby is long dead, and the comic book collecting ended 2 decades ago. So it didn't come as too big a surprise when she finished my sentence for me.
"Sweetie, I have a request about this afternoon. I was hoping we could..."
"Go see the new Superman movie," she blurted. "I knew you were going to say that."
I could see that she was somewhat less than enthused. In recognition of that fact I did offer to back out and do something more wife friendly. But to her credit she would not deny me this little pleasure and so... off we went.
This review comes from someone who sat through the original Christopher Reeves series (except Superman IV... nobody should have to suffer that one). From beginning to end, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. And as much as this is high blasphemy considering the late-great Mr. Reeves... I enjoyed Superman Returns more than the original series. The story was well written and there was just the right amount of tension between Superman & Lex Luther and Superman & Lois Lane. I highly recommend it.
It was on our way back from the movie that my wife threw me for a loop.
"It surprised me that it was a romantic story."
"So you liked it?"
"Yeah. I can't believe I'm saying this but I did. I liked it."
I love my wife.

Great trait in a man to love his wife. :)

Oh Ponyboy, I think that you and I saw two completely different movies because I found myself wondering when the movie would end. I couldn't figure out where they spent the budget and I found Lex Luther to be BORING! AND what was that horrible wig that Lois Lane was wearing. I did like the guy who played Superman though, thought he did an excellent job and considering what big shoes he had to fill he did so well.

ReplyDeleteBut I do have to defend Kevin Spacey (Lex Luther). He is one of my favorite actors.
I also loved Parker Posey. I found her interactions with Lex to be hysterical.
